Student Homework for Heavenly Mathematics & Cultural Astronomy
There are three goals of the Sun homework.
- Observe the setting (or rising) position of the Sun over
the course of three months
- Estimate the date of the zenith passage around September 20 or March
24
- Study the changes in the shape of the shadow path of a
vertical sundial over the course of three months
There are four goals of the
Moon homework.
- Determine the day of the first visibility of the lunar
crescent, i.e., the first day of the Muslim month
- Determine the day of the first daytime visibility of the Moon
- Determine the tilt of the Moon when it is a crescent close
to the horizon
- Follow the phases of the Moon in the course of a lunar
month
