Textbook: Numerical Methods (2nd edition, 1998), by R.L. Burden and J.D. Fairs. Publisher: Brooks/Cole Publishing Company. Burden and Faires' another book ``Numerical Analysis'' (6th edition, 1997) would be OK.

Reference Book: An Introduction to Numerical Analysis (2nd edition, 1993), by K.E. Atkinson. Publisher: John Wiley.

Course Outline: The course will involve with the following sections of the recommended testbook. I may add some material not contained in the text which you will be equally responsible for on the exam, tutorial and lab.

Direct methods for solving linear systems (a review) (sections 6.1-6.3, 6.6).
Iterative methods for solving linear systems (sections 7.1-7.6).
Approximation Eigenvalues (sections 9.1-9.5).
Numerical solution of initial-value problems (sections 5.1-5.4, 5.6,5.8).

Grading: The course grade will be calculated as follows: Final exam: 70%; Midterm quiz: 10%; Labs and Tutorials: 10%; Assignments: 10%.
