Textbook: Numerical Methods (2nd edition, 1998), by J.D. Fairs and R.L. Burden. Publisher: Brooks/Cole Publishing Company. Burden and Faires' another book ``Numerical Analysis'' (6th edition, 1997) would be OK.

Course Outline: The course will introduce numerical methods for solving a variety of mathematical and physical problems numerically: generation and propagation of round-off errors and convergence criteria, solutions of linear systems, function approximation and interpolation, special function evaluation, fitting/modeling of data, numerical differentiation & integration, and linear programming. Grading: The course grade will be calculated as follows: Final exam: 60%; Labs: 15%; Assignments: 20%; and Tutorials: 5%.
