Textbook: Numerical Methods (2nd edition, 1998), by J.D. Fairs and R.L. Burden. Publisher: Brooks/Cole Publishing Company. Burden and Faires' another book ``Numerical Analysis'' (6th edition, 1997) would be OK.

Course Outline: The course will focus on numerical methods for scientific computing including numerical integration for area and volume of geometric shapes, numerical methods for initial and boundary value problems in science (pendulum, population model, chemical reaction rates etc.) Detail Outline


Grading: The course grade will be calculated as follows: Final exam: 50%; Lab assignement: 20%; Homework assignments: 25%; and tutorial attendence: 5%.
