Lecture time/venue: Thursday 14:00pm-16:00pm at LT20. Lab time/venue: At S17 #07-31 (Year 3 Lab); Lab 1: Wed 10:00am-12:00nn, Lab2: Wed 2:00pm-4:00pm, Lab3: Thu 10:am-12:00nn. One time per week start from the third week.

Textbook: Mathematica (available online) ( 4th edition, 1999 or 3nd edition, 1996 ), by Stephen Wolfram. Publisher: Addison-Wesley Publishing Company, Inc. Download Free Mathematica Notebook reader so that you can read lecture notes at home.

Course Outline: The course will focus on the symbolic computing software -- Mathematica. I will also touch a little on Matlab and/or Maple. Detail Outline

Grading: The course grade will be calculated as follows: Final exam (open book): 60%; Term exam (open book): 10%; Labs: 30%.

Schedule of test:

Term exam: Thursday 2:10pm-3:00pm 20 September 2001 at LT20; covers Lectures 1,2,3,4 and Tutorial 1. Solution to term exam .

Final exam: Friday 8:30-10:30am 23 November 2001 at CH; Covers lectures 1-9 and little in lecture 10, Tutorials 1-3 and labs 1-5.

Labs: please make a sub-directory named ``CZ3206'' under your home directory in your year 3 lab account. You can change your lab work anytime before its due date. Please print a hard copy of the latest version of each of your lab assignment and hand it in the year 3 lab before its due date. Keep the soft copy of your lab work in your CZ3206 sub-directory. If you change your lab work after you hand in a hard copy and before the due date, please print the new one and hand in it instead. Don't change your lab work after its due date, otherwise it is considered as cheating. You will be deducted credits for the lab work if you did this!!
