Textbook: Mathematica (available online) ( 5th edition, 2003 or 4th edition, 1999 or 3nd edition, 1996 ), by Stephen Wolfram. Publisher: Addison-Wesley Publishing Company, Inc. Download Free Mathematica Notebook reader so that you can read lecture notes at home.

Course Outline: The course will focus on the symbolic computing software -- Mathematica. I will also touch a little on Matlab and/or Maple. Detail Outline


Grading: The course grade will be calculated as follows: Final exam (open book): 50%; Labs & Homeworks: 35%; Midterm: 15%.

Schedule of test:

  • Solution to Midterm .
  • Final exam: Friday 9:00-11:00am 16 April 2004 at MPSH2;

    Labs: please make a sub-directory named ``CZ4206'' under your home directory in your year 3 lab account. You can change your lab work anytime before its due date. Please print a hard copy of the latest version of each of your lab assignment and hand it in the year 3 lab before its due date. Keep the soft copy of your lab work in your CZ4206 sub-directory. If you change your lab work after you hand in a hard copy and before the due date, please print the new one and hand in it instead. Don't change your lab work after its due date, otherwise it is considered as cheating. You will be deducted credits for the lab work if you did this!!
