Textbook: Modelling with Ordinary Differential Equations (1993), by T. P. Dreyer. Publisher: CRC Press. You can buy it from NUS Co-op.

Reference Book :

Course Outline: The course covers the basic theory of (mainly first-order) ODEs, including systems of ODEs and phase-plane techniques, and their use in simple modeling problems, with an emphasis on population dynamics. There is also some material on second-order equations. The principal learning objective is to train the students to be able to convert verbally formulated "real-world" problems into concrete mathematics which can be analysed using simple techniques. The target students are students who propose to pursue studies in applicable mathematics, and also any student who wishes to learn how mathematics can actually be used in the real world. Detail Outline

Grading: The course grade will be calculated as follows: Final exam: 60%; Howework Assignments: 35%; and Tutorials: 5%.
