Please download and print a copy of the Course Outline. Possession of this document is a necessary but not sufficient condition for surviving this course.
Sketches of proofs are provided to most non-trivial statements. You are encouraged to try your hand at working them out on your own.
There will be a few graded homework assignments throughout the course of the semester.
There will be one test during the semester. The test will be worth 30% of the final grade.
Almost all of the topics I intend to cover are standard material for a first course in complex analysis. The one possible exception is the Riemann Mapping Theorem, which is standard, but perhaps not for a first course. All of the material is treated in some way in the references, although the treatment I will give them may be different.
1. Joseph Bak and Donald J. Newman, Complex analysis.
2. Konrad Knopp, Theory of functions. (Mainly Part I)
3. Norman Levinson and Raymond M. Redheffer, Complex variables.
Your grade will be determined by
Graded homework 20%
Test 30%
Final exam 50%
