Math 150 Lecture 002 - Seventh Homework Assignment

Dr. Chinburg, the Undergraduate Chair for Mathematics, has asked the faculty to remind students of several sources of help. These links are also found on our course guide. One is the general math advising page:

Math Advising

The other is the link to the Math 150 newsgroup. This newsgroup is very underutilized. This is a place where you can post questions and get answers. The questions and answers are open to anyone who looks at the newsgroup. The newsgroups are manned by TA's Monday through Thursday evenings from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The TA's will not solve homework problems for you, but they will give suggestions if you are stuck. I try to check the newsgroup occasionally as well. The link below gets you to the main Math 150 web page. From there, click on Netnews.

For discussion at recitation on T Oct. 27, and Th Oct. 29.

Reminder: Exam #3 is Wednesday, October 28. It covers the course through Chapter 4. See additional information on our Course Guide. Also see the email message I sent to the class on October 18.

READING: Chapter 5 Sections 1 - 3.

CORE PROBLEMS: Write up, for your own record, solutions to the Core Problems for Chapter 5 sections 1 - 3.

Solution Error: Problem 5.1 #33. Be sure to do this one using MAPLE. You will see that the sketch in the answer section of the text is inaccurate and that the outer curve is mislabeled. The outer curve is exp(.05*x), not exp(1.5*x).

OLD FINAL EXAM PROBLEMS: Final Exams for the past eight semesters are included at the back of your Math 150/151 Lab Manual. For this week's assignment you should work the following problems from the old final exams:

Fall 1996:

none this week

Spring 1997:
