Math 141 Week 3 Notes Monday, January 25, 1999
Topics for this week
Beginning of 3D calculus (x,y,z) coordinates,
vectors in 2 and 3 dimensions, dot product and
cross product.
 Lines and planes
Examples
Find equation of sphere of radius 3 centered at
(3,2,4).
Find the angle between the vectors (3,1,1) and
(1,1,0).
Find the equation of the plane through the points
(0,1,), (1,1,2) and (2,1,1). Then find the
distance from (5,5,5) to the plane.
If the cross product of V and W is zero, what can
you say about V and W? What about the dot product?
What if both are zero?
