Homework assignments will be posted once a week under HOMEWORK.
RECITATION: During each recitation except for those during midterm exam weeks there will be a 10 minute quiz taken from the homework assignment which is due that week. There will be NO MAKE UP QUIZZES; however, you will be allowed to drop your lowest quiz grade (which could be an absence). The quizzes combined count for 15% of your grade. Recitations will begin with a discussion of the assignment due. The quiz will be given in the last 10 minutes of the period.
HOMEWORK AND MAPLE ASSIGNMENTS: Each week's assignment will consist of the relevant core problems, problems from past final exams, plus additional work from the text or other sources. There will also be Maple assignments with problems from Kreyszig or from the MAPLE/CALCULUS LAB MANUAL. You are responsible for the entire assignment. Solutions must be written LEGIBLY and turned in by Friday 1 p.m. in an envelope in front of the Teaching Assistants office. Two or three of these problems will be graded, and a record kept of all the homework turned in. No late homework assignments will be accepted but the lowest homework grade will be dropped. The homework and Maple assignments combined will count for 15% of the final grade. There will also be occasional extra credit problems assigned. They will give you a chance to try some more challenging problems. They are to be handed in to the instructor at the end of class on Friday and are returned during recitation. Extra credit problems are added after all grades are assigned (up to a maximum of 10 points out of 100) and give you a chance to improve your grade.
EXAMS: There will be two midterms; the first on Monday February 8, 6:30-8:00 pm. and the second on Monday March 22, 6:30-8:00 pm.. Each will be worth 20% of the course grade. NO MAKE UP EXAMS WILL BE GIVEN. All sections of Math 141 will have a COMMON FINAL EXAM which is tentatively scheduled for Friday, May 7, 11-1. The exam is closed book and multiple choice. No calculator is allowed but a 5" by 7" card of notes is permitted.
You will have access to your own grades during the semester through the link GRADES. This is a secure grade file which requires your Penn ID for access to your grades.
